Baton twirlers

Details
Description
African American female baton twirlers perform on the court of the gymnasium of the Western Baptist Seminary, 2119 Tracy Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. In one line behind the leader with a whistle in her mouth, they each hold the baton above their head with both hands and step forward with their right foot. All wear a light colored t-shirt, a light-colored pleated, thigh-length skirt, and mid-calf, light color boots with tassels on the front. Behind the girls, under the basketball basket, an African American man and woman sit in upholstered chairs and wear large corsages. The woman has a crown on her head. The man is wearing a fedora hat. To the right and behind the girls, African American boys and men sit against the wall wearing suits. On the center farthest right in the photograph stands a white man in a suit by a table with a basketball on it.
