Description
African American Army men hold out their left arms to touch the right shoulder of the man next to them, and look to their right to measure their distance from one another in ranks. They are in front of a clapboard barracks with A25 above the porch. The windows are opened in the barracks. A jeep is parked behind the ranks.

Dowdal Davis stands by a woman that sits by the steps

Description
Dowdal Davis and an unidentified African American woman (possibly Dowdal's sister Marguerite Davis) smile as they pose by the steps to the Davis home located at 301 N. 3rd (now called Park), in Independence, Kansas. The steps are located on the south side facing Laurel Street and St. Andrews Catholic School. The woman sits on the concrete wall by the steps wearing a bell hat and a full-length one-clasp jacket over her skirt and blouse. Dowdal stands behind her and the wall leaning his right shoulder into her. He wears a three-piece striped suit with a double breasted vest.
