Cole Bros. Circus Band

Description
Coles Brother's Circus Band stands on and in front of a stage with a banner behind them of women dancing in costume. The men wear light, long-sleeved shirts with Cole Bros. Circus printed on the left breast pocket, white captain's hats with dark brims, and short, wide striped neckties. The three African American women wear dance costumes and hold a pose in the center on the stage. Farthest to the left on stage is a baritone player. To his left is a tenor saxophone player. The three women are to the left of the saxophone player. To their left of the dancers is a trumpet player and then a trombone player. On the ground in front of the stage base curtains is a snare drummer farthest to the left. To his left is P.G. Lowry the cornet player and bandleader. To P.G. Lowry's left is the bass drummer. To the bass drummer's left is an alto saxophone and soprano saxophone player. Farthest to the right is the tuba player. The number 3436 is printed on the bottom of the photograph between the alto saxophonist and the tuba player. Handwritten at the top, "Coles Bro's Circus - 1937." Handwritten on the bottom, "P.G. Lowry."

An unidentified African American man holding a tenor guitar while wearing mix-matched clothing and a derby hat stands to the right and gives a questioning look to an unidentified African American woman holding a Fender electric bass guitar and pointing her finger at him during a performance in Chicago, Illinois. She wears a close-fitting hat with a flower sticking straight up out of the top of it and a sleeveless, fringed, culotte jumpsuit. They stand in front of a glass-block half wall with a drum set behind it. The woman's face is in profile from her left side.
