Missouri Baptist Young People's Department of African American Women's Convention

Details
Description
A group photograph of the Missouri Baptist Young People's Department of African American Women's Convention just in front of the porch of Goins Hall on the Western Baptist Seminary campus at 2119 Tracy Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. There are a few African American men and children. There are mostly African American women and three white women. The first row sits in chairs and the following rows stand on the steps up to the porch. A sign above the porch attached to the balcony fence reads, "Goins Hall." Handwritten in white just below Goins Hall, "Missouri Baptist Young People's Dep't. of Women's Convention. Assembled at Western Seminary. July 23-28, 1945 Kansas City Mo."

Farthest to the left Bunnie "Bumps" Love smiles to her right at the photographer as she sits with her hands on the piano keys. To the right is the unidentified bass player. In the center front is Myra Taylor with her arms spread as she smiles and sings into a microphone on the stand in front of her. She wears a full-length evening gown. To her left behind her on the stage is Curtyse Foster wearing a tuxedo and blowing into a saxophone. To Curtyse's left and behind him on stage is Bill Nolan smiling and playing the drums. To Bill's left and in front of Bill on the stage, Elmer Price blows into a trumpet. There is a derby hat hanging on a stand in front of Elmer Price. The front corners of the stage are decorated with organ pipes.

Description
An unidentified African American woman with her arms around the shoulders of two unidentified, unenthused, African American men, sit at a table while having drinks at an unidentified venue. The table has a tablecloth, four glasses, a glass bowl with ice in it, a bottle of Seagram's 7, a bottle of White Rose, and what is likely a bottle of seltzer water and a bottle of water. The man to her right wears a wide tie with a large swirl pattern over a dark shirt, under a vest, under a suit jacket. She wears a dark blouse with a bow at the collar as she smiles at the man to her right. The man to her left wears a light colored suit with a wide printed dark tie. He holds a cigarette in his left hand. He appears to have a scar on his upper lip from his left nostril to his lip. Five unidentified African American men sit at other tables behind the trio.
